High Heels Power

November 30, 2007 at 9:04 pm | In Life, Personal, Self-esteem |

Today I felt different.

For the first time in my life, I wore high heels and walked out in the open with them! Well, maybe they are not really that high to others but to me, they are because I barely wear them. I always wear flats because:

  • I thought tall people don’t wear high heels.
  • I thought they don’t match my character as I am clumsy you know.
  • I thought I would fall down lol, as I walk too fast. Sometimes I feel I don’t walk like most women do. (Anjali in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai anyone? LoL!)

Flashback in Italy, a long time ago, I felt the urge to try one pair and when I did, the guy, seller, whatever, said ” Errm madame you have to learn how to walk in them first!” My face turned bright red! That was when I stopped thinking about even considering high heels!

Anyways back to my story, I recently got those boots. They about 3 cm high ehm ehm don’t laugh. When I started to walk, I thought I would fall down.  I started walking and suddenly I felt strange, like I am someone else! I looked at myself in the mirror (which I rarely do) and that person is not really me! I thought if I walked down the street, everyone would stare and know that it’s my first time and that I cannot walk in them. Then, I felt the urge to challenge myself and go out with them. So I did! I had the feeling that people are staring but really none was. It was just in my imagination.

Point is, somehow I really felt good when I was walking out in them. I don’t think it’s really because of the heals but wearing them made me feel more confident. I felt good and optimistic that I CAN change. Well, you may think that what I am saying is silly but I guess I got that feeling because lately I have been thinking about changing some things in me. I need confidence and I need to feel good about myself.

Hey, I walked in heels today, who knows what I can do next! LoL.

BTW, I am not a heels person really and I don’t think I am wearing them anytime soon but what I felt today was good!

I don’t ALWAYS wear heals. Actually, i havent in a while cuz where i am we always walk fa its uncomfortable, but heals r sexy, no one can argue otherwise! They make a woman look different. Walk different. Feel different even. 7ata law they’re not HIGH, they r high enuf to make u feel up there. Out there. I’d say it gives a little boost of confidence. ;) U shud start wearing them. Occasionally at least.

  5. Lovely story with many layers to it.
Coping with new changes, confidence, motivating, breaking mind illusionary boundaries and never underestimating internal powers and strength.

It’s about the ride itself and not whirling in fears of the new destinations.

  7. I only started wearing them, because hubby likes them.
But now I like them too, not all the time, but sometimes.
They make my whole body feel different :)

    And f*** those Italian shopkeepers.
I remember the one that told me “That dress? In YOUR size? No, we don’t have that”
    ………………………

And now, where’s that picture that shows them heels off????

  9. Hamad: Yeah it’s the challenge that made me feel good.. like facing a fear,,

Shoush: LooooL!!! Hot 3ad! Yeah I know, it boosts your confidence in a way and you feel above the world lol!

Navy Girl: Welcome! Yeah well, you can’t wear them if you are working walking around too much, you know.. Some people can but I am not sure how they feel inside. Some people feel they HAVE to wear them say to work or to a certain place.. Yeah they do give a sophisticated look!

Touche: Yeah that was exactly what I meant.. It’s more like overcoming a fear, because of the mixed feelings in me lately.. That is why I felt that way.. I am trying to arrive somewhere, though I don’t know where yet lol!

    Hopeless Poet: I guess so!

Rainmountain: LoL my husband likes them too.. when I got married he was like “don’t you wear heals?” I was like errrmmm… lol and when I wear them I become a bit taller but he doesn’t mind and I like that fact that he doesn’t feel like that, he’s like i don’t mind.. he’s 174 and I am 171.. so it’s a small difference..
Yeah those Italians , tell me about it!! I hate those guys who look at you in a disapproving way! And those designers who make unreal clothes sizes! I mean, models can wear them but what about REAL people!!!

    - have a slimming effect
    - make u look taller
    - make ur legs look longer
    - make u walk slower (like a geisha)

    and much much more!

  19. My mom convinced me to buy this 2.5″ wedge heel boots last year. Too bad I wore them only twice and I don’t have enough courage to wear them again.

    Flats rawk ;)

  20. iNoor: Sooo true!! Took me years lol! but it’s not really because of the heels.. I mean I have been experiencing things and I wanted to change something, those boots were in front of me and I told myself I HAVE to wear them today lol! Part of the new me thing ;)

  21. although they do look hot, i cant for the love of god understand why you girls would put yourself under the immense amount of torture and try walking in heels.

one, it hurts, two, its awkward, and three, i can imagine the amount of pain you would be in if you slipped and fell :p

aaaah… its good to be a guy :p

    Comment by ammaro.com — December 2, 2007 #

  22. aahhh I know why u don’t wear heels.. cuz u’ll be taller than most of the guys! (including ur husband maybe)! hahaha same problem, I’m 169 so with 10cm heels I’m taller than a lot of the guys in Kuwait ;/ they’re midgets I swear.

    Comment by Enigma — December 2, 2007 #

  23. Ammaro: Very true! but you know I learned that some heals are comfortable and some are not.. but I woukldn’t wear them all the time or when I am working or shopping .. I need to wear something comfy.. and lol, sometimes I get jealous from guys, they can wear whatever they want and swim and do stuff and I stand to watch grrrrrr!!!!

Enigma: LoL Yeah true, but it’s not our problem! And it’s good my husband doesn’t mind, alot of men do mind..

  27. Went through the same issue! I’m 5′8″ and was afraid to wear heels. I didn’t want to tower over others. Recently though I bought a beautiful pair of knee high black boots with a 4 inch heel! Never thought that would be me, but I do get positive attention and towering over your boss can be a good thing…lol (he’s 5′7″). My bf is 6′ and simply loves them. I feel powerful when I wear them which gives me confidence…who knew! :)
